Things To Know About Silent Saturdays:

  • The PDX TEA Room is a shoes-off environment.
  • I’ll provide a special place for you to put your cell phone during the event. (No notes or pictures during these sittings.)
  • For every PDX TEA event, please keep yourself as free as possible from any fragrances, including “natural” fragrances. :)
  • To keep your palate clear, I suggest avoiding dairy the day of the event.
  • I also suggest avoiding any toothpaste containing SLS — sodium laurel/laureth sulfate. (SLS can temporarily suppress your ability to perceive sweetness.)
  • Silent Saturdays are a chance to be fully with the tea, and with yourself. This can be challenging, but we can all do our best to support each other’s efforts! Thank you.

Registration Terms:

I create PDX TEA events with great love and attention, through many hours of research, practice, and preparation; procurement of tea, production of materials, printing of handouts, planning of dog care, and so on. The following guidelines help me maintain the high standard of your experience, and the sustainability of my organization:

  1. All events are pre-registration only. (No at-the-door ticket sales.)
  2. Registration ends 48 hours before the event’s start time.
  3. If you want to register, but the cutoff time has passed, please contact me directly by text message, as soon as possible, at (971) 258-2832. (Yes, that’s 971 Club Tea. :)
  4. Each event has a maximum of 7 guests, and a minimum of 3 guests.
  5. If an event does not have 3 guests registered by the time registration ends, I may choose to reschedule or cancel the event. (If I cancel it, I will promptly refund you your money via PayPal.)
Thank you so much for understanding the importance of these considerations!

About This Event

There are a few sessions I’m regularly asked to repeat. One of those that’s most consistently in that category is silent tea. I’m not a meditation teacher, but I’ll give you some simple guidance to help you get a lot out of these sessions, and some resources you can use to extend your practice if you find it helpful enough that you’d like to pursue it outside the tea room. We’ll drink one or two very special teas.

If not literally silent, each of these sessions will move in the direction of quiet, settled stillness.

This month, we’ll be drinking a Hong Kong & Taiwan dry storage Kunming 紅中紅 (Red in Red) shēng bǐng from 1999. The drier storage has helped this tea maintain a somewhat cooler character; it should be a welcome feeling for a July afternoon.

This month, we have a really cool opportunity. At 10:00 a.m. on June 8th, Minto Island tea farm is hosting their annual open house. Anyone who wants can join us for the tea farm tour, Q & A, and tasting of Minto grown & produced teas.

After that, we’ll find a quiet corner of the farm to drink a Taiwan Storage CNNP 藍印圓茶 (Blue Mark Round Tea). (I actually don’t remember how old this one is, but it’s *really* nice.) I’m excited to share it with you, outdoors, near growing tea!

You can find out more about Minto Island and their open house at their website: mintoislandtea.com/events/2019/6/8/open-house
